Thoroughly tired of the cold and the hotels service, the team packed the bikes and headed off down the mountain, towards ‘civilization’. On the way up the mountain the team faced rain and mud, on the way down we had to battle hordes of kids who found it quite amusing to hurl large rocks and sticks at us. Working like a tactical swat team, the boyz worked their way down the mountain pointing at potential stone throwers and giving them the ‘If looks could kill’ glare, for most this tactic worked, however their were a few that were not deterred, resulting in some of the team taking direct hits. Eventually we arrived in Gonder the castle town of Ethiopia and after filling the bikes, we wound our way up a small hill on the outskirts of Gonder to the Goha Hotel, which was previously a Hilton hotel, until the Communist government took it over. We were pleased to find cell phone reception and that the climate was a little warmer, however the warm shower still eluded us. The team retired early tonight, all very eager to wake up early tomorrow morning and put Ethiopia far behind us. “There are many things in ones life, that one looks forward to: The end of High School, the end of ones service to the army, and now the end of Ethiopia.” Les
The City of Gonder.
To the right, is one of Gonder's Castles.
