Day 28: Awasa - Addis Ababa

Grateful to have had some sleep and eager to get to Addis Ababa, the team was up relatively early and after breakfast we set off towards Addis Ababa. The drive was fairly uneventful, taking us through some spectacular lakes. The pace was slow again today, and after a lengthy ride, we stopped just outside Addis Ababa to refuel and grab something to drink. While stretching our legs the Afrikaaners from Marsabit pulled into the petrol station and after saying hello, we set off into the Addis traffic. Driving into Addis was quite hair raising and after surviving the massive trucks screaming past you, you still had to navigate through a bustling town that has no road rules whatsoever. Eventually, with the help of a few GPS’s we arrived at the Sheraton Hotel, which is more like a fort with all the barriers and guards around it. Tired, dirty and very relieved to be in a civilized place the team checked in and then retired to their rooms to attempt to remove the last few days dirt and grit from their bodies. Feeling like whole new people after their showers, the team headed to one of the Sheraton’s four restaurants to fill the gaping hole that has a slowly been developing since leaving Nairobi. We plan to stay here until Thursday morning, hopefully within that time we can replace all the wheels, 5 of the shocks and rebuild the front section of Grant’s bike. Wish us luck!

Soul Food!
There is no doubt in my mind that a little bit of Sheraton TLC does nobody any harm!
I am sure you all appreciated the spoiling the hotel had to offer.
